VISCA Getting Started
VISCA commands are byte sequences used to control camera movement, presets, focus, zoom, and other functions. Commands in the PTZOptics VISCA reference end with FF.
Choose a transport
| Transport | Use when | Configuration to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Serial VISCA | The controller connects directly through a serial interface | Camera protocol, address, and serial communication settings |
| VISCA over TCP | The integration maintains a network socket and reads responses | Camera IP address and configured TCP port; product documentation commonly uses 5678 |
| VISCA over UDP | The integration sends network datagrams | Camera IP address and configured UDP port; product documentation commonly uses 1259 |
The configured protocol and port are camera settings. For an example product setup, see Move 4K control options.
Send a movement command
The following command moves the camera left with pan and tilt speeds of 08 and ends with FF:
81 01 06 01 08 08 01 03 FF
For a TCP integration, send those bytes to the configured camera address and port. The VISCA movement reference documents the byte positions, supported directions, speed ranges, stop command, home command, and position commands.
Read responses
A camera can acknowledge a command, report completion, or return an error. Keep reading the transport after sending a command and use the response packet to determine whether the camera accepted or completed it. See VISCA responses for the documented ACK, completion, and error packets.
