Getting Started
The PTZOptics Horizon Web UI is a browser-based control interface that gives you full access to your PTZOptics camera's settings, image controls, presets, streaming configuration, and automation features, all from any device on your local network.
The Horizon Web UI is the next-generation interface for PTZOptics cameras. It is separate from the legacy web interface.
Accessing the Horizon Web UI (Login)
Open a web browser and navigate to:
http://[camera-ip-address]/horizon
Example: If your camera's IP address is 192.168.1.100, you would go to:
http://192.168.1.100/horizon
Once logged in, you will be brought to the home screen.
Firmware and Version Information
The Horizon Web UI version is tracked independently of the camera firmware. You can view both under Device → Device Info:
- Firmware Version: The camera's current SOC and ARM firmware
- Horizon Version: The version of the Horizon UI itself
Horizon will notify you of available updates for firmware and or for the Horizon UI with a small update badge directly above the navbar. To keep your camera's apps up-to-date, use the built-in Updater tab under Device Settings.
Activating Horizon
Overview
To activate Horizon, the process uses a Request File (.req) and License File (.lic) exchange to register the camera without requiring a persistent internet connection.
Prerequisites
- Your camera must be running the latest firmware. If a firmware update is required, follow the firmware update instructions before proceeding.
- You must have a PTZOptics Community account. If you do not have one, create an account at community.ptzoptics.com before starting.
- You must have the camera's IP address available.
- A computer with internet access is required to complete the Device Portal registration steps and to update the Horizon software.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open the Activation Page
In a web browser, enter your camera's IP address followed by /update and press Enter.
Example:
http://192.168.15.151/update
Step 2: Download the Request File
On the activation page, click the button to download the Request File (.req) from the camera. Save this file to a known location on your computer.
If your browser prompts you to confirm the download, click "Keep" to approve and save the file.
Step 3: Open the Device Portal
Click "Visit the Device Portal" to open the PTZOptics device registration page in your browser.
Step 4: Sign In to Your Community Account
Click the Single Sign On button and sign into your PTZOptics Community account.
Step 5: Register Using the Request File
On the Device Portal, click "Register using Request File".
Step 6: Upload the Request File and Download the License
Browse your computer for the Request File (.req) downloaded in Step 2 and upload it. Ensure the "Download License" checkbox is selected before submitting.
Upon successful registration, the License File (.lic) will automatically download to your computer.
If you need to retrieve the License File again later, it is available from the three-dot menu on the Devices page within the Device Portal.
Step 7: Verify Device Registration
Confirm that your camera now appears in the Devices list on the Device Portal. Once verified, return to the camera's activation page in your browser.
Step 8: Upload the License File to the Camera
On the camera's activation page, click Choose File and locate the License File (.lic) downloaded in Step 6. Select the file and upload it to the camera.
Step 9: Confirm License Validation
After a brief pause, the camera will display the Offline license status as valid.
If your camera has internet access at this time, the Online license status will also validate automatically.
Step 10: Continue to the Updater
Click "Continue to Updater" to proceed to the software installation step.
Step 11: Download and Install Horizon
Click "Download/Install Updates" to download and install Horizon onto the camera.
The camera requires internet access during this step to retrieve the software package. This process typically takes 3–5 minutes. The camera will automatically reboot when complete.
Step 12: Open the Horizon Interface
After the camera reboots, navigate to your camera's IP address followed by /horizon in your browser.
Example:
http://10.20.30.19/horizon
You now have access to the Horizon interface. Voice Tracking and other Horizon features are available from the navigation panel.
