Microphone Configuration

The Voice Tracking interface is your central control panel for connecting microphones, managing switchers, tuning detection sensitivity, and monitoring zone activity. This page covers the toolbar, configuration menu, and threshold settings in detail.

Typical Configuration Workflow

1. Open Voice Tracking interface
2. Open Configuration menu → Microphone tab
3. Select microphone type, enter IP + port
4. Expand Threshold Settings and adjust if needed
5. Click Start Microphone → zones populate on the map
6. Open Configuration menu → Switcher tab (if using a switcher)
7. Select switcher type, enter connection details
8. Click Start Switcher
9. Proceed to Zone Configuration to map zones to cameras

Accessing Voice Tracking

Open the Voice Tracking interface using either method:

  • Navigate directly to http://[camera-ip]/voice-tracking
  • Open the Horizon Web UI at http://[camera-ip]/horizon, click the Apps tab, then click Voice Tracking in the left sidebar

The Toolbar

voice tracking toolbar

The toolbar runs along the top of the Voice Tracking page and provides quick access to all primary controls:

ButtonFunction
Start / Stop MicrophoneConnects or disconnects the configured ceiling microphone and begins listening for audio events.
Start / Stop SwitcherConnects or disconnects the video switcher integration.
Standby ModePauses tracking without disconnecting, zones still activate visually but the camera holds its current position.
Zone ConfigurationOpens the full configuration menu for microphone and switcher settings.
RotateRotates the zones view clockwise.
Open Camera ListOpens the Camera List menu for discovering and adding cameras on the network.
Microphone & Switcher ConfigShortcut to the connection configuration menu.

The Configuration Menu

Click Zone Configuration or Microphone & Switcher Config in the toolbar to open the configuration menu. It contains two tabs: Microphone and Switcher.

Microphone Tab

Microphone Type

Select your ceiling microphone from the dropdown:

  • Audio Technica ATND1061
  • Nureva HDL410
  • Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling 2
  • Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling Medium
  • Sennheiser Speechline Digital Wireless
  • Shure MXA920
  • Televic Confero
  • Yamaha RM-CG

Connection Fields

FieldDescription
IP AddressThe network IP address of your ceiling microphone (availability dependent on microphone type)
PortThe communication port for the microphone's zone data API (availability dependent on microphone type)

Zone Settings Preservation

Zone settings from previous sessions are retained by default, preserving your zone-to-camera and zone-to-preset assignments when you reconnect or change microphone settings. Click the Clear Zones Settings button to reset all zone assignments and start fresh.

Threshold Settings

Expand the Threshold Settings section (toggle in the bottom-left of the configuration panel) to fine-tune how Voice Tracking responds to audio events. These settings directly control tracking responsiveness.

note

Configure threshold settings before clicking Start Microphone. These settings are not available while the microphone is running. Stop the microphone to make changes.

Starting the Microphone

Once your microphone is configured, click Start Microphone. The zone map will populate with zones matching those defined in your microphone system's management console.

Switcher Tab

voice tracking switcher tab

The Switcher tab connects Voice Tracking to your video production software or hardware switcher for automated camera cuts.

FieldDescription
Switcher TypeSelect from: OBS Studio, vMix, INOGENI CAM230, Epiphan.
IP AddressIP address of the computer or device running the switcher. (Appears dynamically depending on the switcher type)
PortThe port used by the switcher's remote control API. (Appears dynamically depending on the switcher type)
UsernameUsername if required by the switcher (leave blank for OBS and INOGENI).
PasswordPassword for the switcher.
Auth TokenAuthentication token for the switcher (required for INOGENI IP2USB).

Click Start Switcher to establish the connection. See Switcher Integration for per-switcher setup details.

Verification Threshold

The number of consecutive 100ms audio readings that must be detected before a voice event is considered verified.

ValueBehavior
HigherLess sensitive: fewer false triggers, slower response.
LowerMore responsive: may trigger on ambient noise.

Each microphone reading occurs every 100 milliseconds.

Identification Threshold

The number of successful verifications required before Voice Tracking takes action (moves the camera or fires a switcher cut).

This works in combination with the Verification Threshold:

Verification Threshold × Identification Threshold × 100ms = Minimum Response Time

Example:

VerificationIdentificationMinimum Response Time
33900ms (0.9 seconds)
531500ms (1.5 seconds)
351500ms (1.5 seconds)
22400ms (0.4 seconds)
tip

Start with the defaults (3 × 3 = 900ms) and adjust incrementally based on real-world testing in your room. Faster response times increase the chance of false triggers.

Silence Threshold

The duration of silence (in seconds) that must pass before Voice Tracking activates the Silence Zone. The Silence Zone is a special zone that triggers when no audio is detected in any active zone.

  • Default: 7 seconds
  • Increase this if speakers pause frequently between sentences to avoid unwanted cuts to the silence preset.
  • Decrease this for faster transitions to the silence zone preset position.

Decibel Threshold

Controls the microphone's noise floor, the minimum sound level required to register as audio activity.

Availability

The Decibel Threshold is only available for Nureva and Sennheiser microphones. It does not appear for other microphone types.

AdjustmentWhen to Use
IncreaseNoisy environments, HVAC systems, projector fans, background chatter
DecreaseQuiet rooms, maximize sensitivity for soft-spoken presenters

Reset to Defaults

Click the Default button to reset all threshold settings to their factory values.

Interface Status Indicators

When the microphone and/or switcher are connected, the Voice Tracking interface displays status information:

IndicatorMeaning
Microphone ConnectedThe microphone is actively sending zone data.
Switcher ConnectedThe switcher is connected and receiving cut commands.
Microphone OffNo microphone connection is active.
Switcher OffNo switcher connection is active.

Next Steps

With the microphone connected and thresholds configured, proceed to Zone Configuration to assign cameras and presets to each tracking zone.
