Zone Configuration
The zone map is the core interface for mapping audio zones to camera actions. Once a microphone is connected and zones are populated, you use the zone map to assign a camera preset (or switcher source) to each zone, telling Voice Tracking exactly where to point the camera when audio is detected in a given area of the room.
How Zones Work
Each zone represents a physical area of your room as detected by your ceiling microphone. The number and arrangement of zones depends on your microphone system:
| Microphone System | Zone Behavior |
|---|---|
| Nureva HDL410 | Zones match those defined in Nureva Console coverage map. |
| Shure MXA920 | Zones correspond to steerable coverage lobes. |
| Sennheiser | Zones based on beamsteering sectors. |
| Sennheiser Speechline Digital Wireless | Zones based on the number and wearers of wireless mics. |
| Audio Technica, Televic, Yamaha | Zones from the microphone's beam configuration. |
| Legacy (4×4 grid) | 16 zones in a fixed grid layout. |
In addition to microphone-defined zones, every configuration includes one Silence Zone, a special zone that activates when no audio is detected anywhere in the room.
Zone Views
Grid View
The grid view displays zones as a grid overlay on a blank background. This is the default view.

List View
The list view displays zones in a vertical list, providing a more detailed view of each zone's status and configuration.

Zone States
Each zone on the map displays a visual state that reflects its current status:
| Visual | State | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| White label | Unconfigured | Zone exists but has no camera or preset assigned. |
| Green label | Configured | A camera and preset are assigned to this zone. |
| Glowing green border | Active | Audio is currently detected in this zone. |
| Blocked | Excluded | Zone is intentionally ignored by Voice Tracking. |
Zone Actions
From either view (Grid or List), you can assign presets from the selected camera, toggle auto-tracking ON/OFF for each zone, and select a switching source.
Additionally, you can block zones from use while in the List View.
Step 1: Orient the Zone Grid
The zone map displays your room as viewed from above. By default, the orientation may not match your physical room layout.
Use the Rotate 90° button in the toolbar to rotate the zone grid clockwise until it aligns with your room. A good reference point: position the Silence Zone so it corresponds to the area of the room where no speakers will be (for example, the wall with a display or TV).
If your microphone is ceiling-mounted in the center of the room, rotate until the zones visually correspond to the actual positions of your speakers, podium, or seating areas.
Step 2: Configure the Silence Zone
The Silence Zone activates when no audio is detected for the duration specified by the Silence Threshold.
For Preset Recall Setups (No Switcher)
Select the preset to recall when the Silence Zone activates. This is typically a wide shot that includes all participants.
Example: When no one is speaking for 7 seconds, the camera moves to Preset 2, a wide room shot.
For Switcher Setups
Select the source to switch to when the Silence Zone activates. This is typically a wide-angle camera covering the entire room.
Example: When no one is speaking for 7 seconds, the switcher cuts to Camera 2 (the wide-angle camera).
Once configured, the Silence Zone label will change to green, indicating it is active and ready.
Step 3: Map Individual Zones
For each zone where a speaker may be located:
Activating a Zone
- Physically move to the zone location in your room.
- Speak to activate the zone. The zone will highlight on the map when audio is detected.
- Confirm the correct zone is activating before assigning a camera.
Assigning a Camera and Preset
- Click the header (name label) of the zone on the map.
- A popover appears with two dropdowns:
- Camera: Select from cameras added via Camera Search
- Preset: Select a saved preset position for the camera to recall when audio is detected in this zone
- Once both are assigned, a green checkmark will appear next to the configured fields, and the zone label turns green.
Preset positions must already be saved on the camera before they appear in the dropdown. Save presets from the PTZ controls in the Horizon Web UI dashboard before configuring zones.
Multi-Zone Camera Assignments
If a single camera covers multiple zones (multiple seating positions within its field of view), assign the same camera to each zone but use different presets for each position.
If using a switcher and multiple zones share the same camera, assign the same switcher source to each zone within that camera's coverage area.
Step 4: Name Zones (Optional)
You may assign a custom name to each zone for easier identification:
- Click the zone header to open the assignment popover.
- Enter a descriptive name in the zone name field.
- The name will display in the center of the zone on the map.
Recommended naming conventions:
- Physical location: "Stage Left," "Podium," "Audience Right"
- Person-based: "Host," "Guest 1," "Panel Seat 3"
- Equipment-based: "Desk Mic," "Couch Area"
Step 5: Exclude Zones (Optional)
If a zone is generating unwanted triggers due to ambient noise, equipment, or areas where no speaker will ever be, exclude it from tracking:
- Click the zone header to open the assignment popover.
- Click the Exclude button.
- The zone will be crossed out and ignored by Voice Tracking.
Common reasons to exclude a zone:
- Air conditioning vents or HVAC noise
- AV equipment generating sound
- Hallways or doorways adjacent to the room
- Areas with background music or ambient audio
Advanced Settings Panel

Click the gear icon (Advanced Settings) in the toolbar to view all zone configurations in a single scrollable panel. This displays each zone's:
- Zone name
- Assigned camera
- Assigned preset
- Assigned switcher source
- Exclude status
Use this panel for a quick overview of your entire zone map configuration or to make bulk adjustments without clicking individual zones.
Reset Zones
To clear all zone configurations and start fresh:
- Open the Advanced Settings panel.
- Click Reset Zones in the top-right corner.
- All zone names, camera assignments, preset assignments, and exclusions will be cleared.
This action cannot be undone. All zone configuration will be lost and must be re-entered.
Using Standby Mode During Configuration
Standby Mode (activated from the toolbar) allows zone activation without triggering actual preset recalls. The zones will highlight when audio is detected, but the camera will not move.
This is useful for:
- Testing which zones activate when speaking from different positions
- Verifying zone orientation matches the physical room
- Configuring zone assignments without the camera moving during setup
Exit Standby Mode when configuration is complete to begin live operation.
Verifying Zone Configuration
Before going live, test your complete zone configuration:
- Exit Standby Mode.
- Move to each zone in the room and speak.
- Verify:
- The correct zone activates (glows green) on the map
- The assigned camera moves to the correct preset
- (If using a switcher) The correct camera source is cut to
- Stop speaking and wait for the Silence Threshold duration.
- Verify the Silence Zone activates and the camera moves to the silence preset.
